Our monthly board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month and are open to everyone so please come along and introduce yourself. Also, be sure to sign up for our weekly newsletter to stay informed of what we have planned.

ASCE LA YMF provides more than 100 membership events a year, including technical tours & presentations, community service events, STEM outreach events for K-12 schools, professional development workshops for engineering university students, and more! We also give out scholarships and host multiple major annual events with attendances up to 700 people! This year, these award-winning events include Los Angeles Engineers Week (E-Week), High School Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition (PSBC), Student Night & Job Fair (SNJF), and the Western Region Younger Member Conference (WRYMC 2017). Membership fees and allocations have consistently only covered about 10% of our costs, and the rest comes from the fundraising efforts of our dedicated volunteers and the generosity of our corporate sponsors. Come learn about how California wants to upgrade water infrastructure in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to improve delivery of water to Southern California. As engineers of the 21st century, how can we design a $15 billion system using large diameter tunnels and pump stations to improve water supply while promoting environmental sustainability? The project will integrate international resources using technologies and research to expand beyond the current design envelope.

Come join ASCE LA YMF to watch the LA Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs (current defending World Series Champions) at the Dodgers Stadium. Not only is baseball a fun American pastime, it will be a great opportunity to network and meet new people.

Come learn about the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting and how it affects water quality and people’s health. The presentation will be given by David Mercier and Terrence Chen, two senior associates from Michael Baker with 31 combined years of experience. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Joint LA YMF Camping Trip is always a blast and this year we are raising the bar and going whitewater rafting down the Kern River! Join us for a few days of fun in the great outdoors.
$20 per person to camp for all four days or $200 per person to camp plus a full day of white water rafting on Saturday. The day of rafting starts from 9am to 3pm and includes lunch.

What: Griffith Park Hike + Technical Tour of the Griffith Park South Water Recycling Project

Why: Enjoy a scenic hike with views of Los Angeles while learning about the engineering work ongoing to expand Recycled Water within the Park
Come join LA YMF for some more drinks and sports with June’s happy hour and sports. We will be grabbing food and drinks at Beer Belly from 6pm-7pm and then heading over to Aroma Driving Range afterwards. This driving range is in the heart of Koreatown and has a cool multi-story set of golf tees that are electronically controlled, so it’s a fun way to look at some interesting engineering, relieve some stress, as well as socialize!

The social activities crew has decided to get a hiking group together along with our friends at the UCI Engineering Alumni Society. We will be hiking together every 4th Sunday of each month in a variety of locations within LA and Orange County.
What: A nice fairly covered hike about 5mi roundtrip to a cool tiered waterfall which you can even hike up.
