ASCE: Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch Younger Member Forum (MLAB-YMF)

Welcome to The Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch Younger Member Forum (MLAB YMF) website. Within our site you will find information, events, opportunities and resources that our group puts together to provide young civil engineers the opportunity to get involved in ASCE early in their careers.

Our award winning group represents the LA County including the five local universities (CSULA, CSUN, LMU, UCLA and USC). Our goal is to provide the tools necessary for our younger members to become successful civil engineers, by hosting a wide array of events that will educate, inform, entertain, and challenge you both professionally and personally.

I have had the privilege of seeing our younger members become great leaders and role models because of their involvement with MLAB YMF. A great example of this is our current board of directors, which is composed of executive officers and committee chairs. They have all been diligently working to plan events that allow us to give back to our communities, promote our profession, educate the public and plant an engineering seed in the minds of our future engineers.

I encourage you to visit our website often, as you will find that we update it on a weekly basis. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.

CONFERENCES:

Younger Member Roundtable - September 20-21st, 2010

On behalf of the Board of Governors of the Transportation and Development Institute of ASCE I'd like to invite your group to nominate a younger member (35 or under) to participate in T&DI's upcoming Younger Member Roundtable.  The roundtable is being held on September 20 - 21, 2010 at the Hilton Hotel at Los Angeles International Airport.  15 - 20 people will be invited to attend the roundtable.  We intend to select invitees so we have a cross section of the membership to provide T&DI leadership with information on how the Institute can meet the member's needs. In addition to the person being a younger member, we would like the nominee to be a transportation professional and/or a member of T&DI.  The purpose of the roundtable is to allow the younger members to educate the T&DI leadership about what the younger members need to make their membership in T&DI and/or ASCE more valuable to them, what products and services they would like to see T&DI develop to meet their needs, and how T&DI can engage them in the activities of T&DI.

Please forward this e-mail to members of your group meeting the above noted criteria.  People interested in being considered to receive an invitation to this roundtable should submit an expression of interest and a short resume to my attention at the address below.  Expressions of interest and resumes should be received no later than close of business on Thursday September 2, 2010.  If you have any questions concerning this T&DI outreach effort please contact me at your convenience.
